bad news today...

Had our high risk appointment today for checking the girls measurements and my cervix. Baby A is 1lb 10 oz and Baby B is 1 lb 14 oz. We tried to do a 3-d ultrasound of the girls faces but baby B had her foot in her sisters face! So they are doing great...my cervix however has changed. 2 weeks ago the number was 30 and now it is 17 which the doctor described as "dismaying but not suprising". There is funneling to the cerclage which is really bad news. So what does this all mean? Besides me having a total nervous breakdown!! Well we need to wait until tomorrow for the results of the Fibronectin test--if it is positive then we start preparing for the babies to come early by giving me steroid shots to help develop their lungs faster and having a home montitoring system with nurses to monitor for contractions...the hope is to keep me out of the hospital for as long as we can. 28 weeks is a pivital time for preemie survival...our goal is to get me at least that far but praying for 32-33 weeks. I am terrified...but I want to remain positive. I will update my blog tomorrow with the game plan. Jen

1.7 cm (or 17 mm)is not devastating. Doctors always give you the worst scenario. No it isn't great, but it isn't the end of the world. I was dilated at 17 weeks with Kenzie and I made it to 36 weeks so it can be done. I would reccommend trying a little t-berg position for a few weeks. Maybe until you hit the 28 week mark. That way you will relieve even more pressure off your cervix. Have your husband place a 2x4 or two under the bottom legs of your bed or couch. Limit your showers and lay down while you take them if possible (I did this from 15 weeks and on). Have DH get you an kid pool floaty thing and lay it on the shower floor. You can do this!!! You can!
